Which is worse, one beer before driving or being distracted by your cellphone while driving?
Deliciously 80s JDM Rotary for your time. (YOU BOUGHT THE WRONG CAR FLAVIEN VIDAL)

Fucking cell phones are a scourge. People looking down at them as if to say “I am boring as a motherfucker but look, I can pretend I’m doing something or at least escape this miserable existence for a while.”
A single beer in the fridge or only one before closing time... better.

Wait, there’s such a thing as just one beer?

I’m not a big guy (180lbs) but even I, after one beer, would still not be “feeling it” at all. I'd still be confident that my BAC would be within legal limits and my motor ability wouldn't be phased. Therefore, cell phones. Definitely!

Phone no doubt.

Depends. If it’s a 9% beer and an empty stomach, probably the drink. If not, it’s the phone (bluetooth included)

Both.

Phone for sure, I’d wager the phone would be just as bad as 5 beers.

If we’re talking taking a call, hands-on or hands-free, the beer is worse.
If we’re talking about actually looking at your phone, or worse, texting someone, then the phone is worse by far. Saw a guy texting while driving a large tractor today. He almost went into a power line pole.

One beer is fine and legal. Cell phones are also fine, if they’re looking down during a red light to set their destination or respond with a quick text.
Jalopnik and some of the people here love to be PC and get a hard-on over obeying laws and being super safe. There’s a big difference between texting while actually moving and texting during a red light.

With the amount of inconclusive info and variables on distracted vs. drunk driving, it’s hard to say. But I think it’s worth noting that if you feel unable to drive, you can put your phone down, but you can’t magically un-drunk yourself.

Both are deadly.

But what if someone is going to rear-end you at a traffic light? If you are paying attention and not on your phone, you could teleport your car to the adjacent street and avoid an accident.

Good point about the big beer on an empty stomach. I’d say in most cases one beer is probably less dangerous than screwing with your phone, and I don’t even drink.

Cell phone. One beer doesn’t usually affect most people.
